We’ve been planning on getting a loft conversion ever since we moved into our house nearly 10 years ago. When is the right time? Well, we decided to go for it towards the end of last year. We started the process of investigating potential companies and found Loftplan. Our early engagement with them was really positive, we didn’t receive any hard sell, or apparent BS; just support, guidance, advice and most of this was in person with a human being, which counts for so much these days! Once we had our agreement in place, we moved forward with signing the contract and then plans were drawn up. Again, everything we had discussed was taken into consideration, prices and fees were as expected and we trusted the experts to tell us if something we wanted was going to be possible or if there was a better way. We received start dates, which were actually brought forward (with agreement from us). We then had a couple of months working with some great chaps (Dan & Simon); they were wonderful characters. They were funny, boisterous, they sang, we kept them topped up with drinks and biscuits and they kept us in the loop every step of the way, even sending me photos of the developments whenever we asked. After they left to move on to their next job (sad to see them go), we had a little respite from the banging and crashing for a couple of weeks (again, this was all pre-planned and agreed). Next came the big changes…they were breaking through the ceiling to known down the rest of our (biggest they’d ever seen apparently) chimney and put the stairs in. They teams on site, were amazing…yes it was dusty and noisy but the team on site and Bob spoke with us and gave advice and trust me; if you follow the advice you can minimise the disruption…accept the fact that things are going to be challenging, there’s no way of getting out of that completely, but we followed the guidance of the experts once again and it paid off. After that, it was all a bit of a blur…the next thing we knew we had stairs and new slick walls, electricity and plumbing and before we knew it…we were painting! Yes, this process still took a few months and I’m not going to lie; I wanted it finished because I could almost smell the finish line and the closer we got, the harder it was to wait! Each significant progress step that comes you pay the agreed amount and you know what’s to come. Whenever something major is round the corner, either the helpful team on site speak with you or Bob sends a message and/or turns up to take you through the process and once again give more advice or takes you through the next set of decisions you need to make. We chose to follow every bit of advice we were given to try to limit problems down the line and it paid off. We were even lucky to have an extra storage space built that we didn’t anticipate but greatly appreciate. There are obviously little snags and challenges that pop up but one message to Bob and depending on the urgency, someone either came round that day/evening or when appropriate. We now have a finished converted loft and we couldn’t be happier.
